I told myself I would post everyday but yeah its only been a day...No one reads my blog anyway so it really doesn't matter. Anyway for those adoring fans of my blog who were wondering where i have been the only explanation I can give is that I have been feeling pretty unmotivated and not very inspired to write anything. i was gonna talk about the fact that the headline says that i like fashion but I haven't posted any fashion pics yet. Oh...well...its looks like I did just write about that huh? yeah I did. Anyway I watched the movie "The Soloist" the other day and was kind of inspired but decided not to write about it but I figure what the hell.
After I watched that movie I was very much touched by the overall message but my favorite part was when the character Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx) got to sit in on a practice of a professional orchestra and when he heard the concerto he was he was mentally transported to a world not of this earth but a place of pure euphoria. It was a place that I have been many times before but never really knew what was going on. For me to listen to beautiful music is an experience and not a pastime. Its almost as if something happens in me chemically and nothing can bother me in that moment. I know there is nothing else I would want than to spend my life surrounded by it. For me its like looking at the most beautiful women you've ever seen and loving her having not met her.

I know exactly what you mean you refer to that place of euphoria. I would argue words are inadequate to describe that place but what I can say is you don’t get weary of going to that place. You forget about your problems, situations, and everything that’s going on outside of the walls that surround you. I think your spirit is nourished when you listen to this kind of music because words like happiness, joy, and euphoria are the only way to describe the feeling you feel when you’re there. A majority of the music popular today doesn’t take you to this place because the artists who record this music have the intentions of money and fame versus creating something eternal and timeless, that improves the quality of life for its listeners.
ReplyDeleteIn a 2005 interview with USA Today, Kanye West said of his own work, "I'm not trying to compete with what's out there now. I'm really trying to compete with Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life. It sounds musically blasphemous to say something like that, but why not set that as your bar?"
I agree that it’s “musically blasphemous” in that West probably will not create anything that will compete with anything from Stevie Wonder’s classic 1972-1976 period but he has the potential to do so. I think the only way West or anyone else for that matter can achieve eternal music like this is if God is truly a part of the process and if their intentions are genuine like Wonder’s intentions were and still are. When Michael Jackson was recording Thriller, Quincy Jones told him to “get out the way” and “leave room for God to walk in the room.” That’s the key right there. When we listen to music that takes us to that place of euphoria, our spirits feel nourished because God can only take us there. Our spirits know when God’s presence is in the music and they respond accordingly. I think that’s what’s happening when music takes us to euphoria.
P.S. I’d like for you to help me find more music like this, Mr. Cassanova. I’ll do the same. Here are some suggestions if you haven’t already experienced them:
- Amel Larrieux
- Donny Hathaway’s Live and Extension of a Man albums, especially his “I Love the Lord; He Heard My Cry” record
- India.Arie
- Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On
- Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me
- Sade’s Love Deluxe
- Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life, Fulfillingness’ First Finale
